Charles Tucker was born and raised in Indiana, graduated from Purdue University in 1971 with a BA in ‘European History and a Cooperative Education Certificate in Chemical Engineering. He was very active in the Wesley Foundation which lead him to graduate school in Dallas at SMU and Perkins School of Theology where he earned the MTh and MSM degrees. He was a graduate conducting assistant to Dr. Lloyd Pfautsch.
Following graduation in 1977, he spent ten years as a minister in the Texas Annual Conference, serving churches in Liberty and Kingwood.
In 1979 he was elected to the Board of TCCC and was dean in 1983.
In 1992 he and his wife, Sammie, moved to Pensacola, Florida where he has served as Minister of Music in ELCA Lutheran and Episcopal churches.
For 4 years he conducted the band and choir for the U.S. Navy and taught middle school and high school band and chorus.
Since retiring from the school district, in 2015, he has taught beginning recorder for the Leisure Learning Group at the University of West Florida.
In 1994 he organized the Pensacola Early Music Consort, which now has 14 members and gives concerts promoting recorders and other early instruments. The concert owns the world’s lowest pitched recorder (low C on the piano), one of 7 in the world and the only one in the USA!
He is a captain in the Civil Air Patrol and a pilot with over 1800 hours.
Sammie and Charles have 5 children and 7 grandchildren with one more on the way.
